cherry blossom season

Did you know it's currently National Park Week? From April 16 to 24, 2016, America is celebrating a big part of its heritage: the national parks! National Park Week is about making great connections, exploring amazing places, discovering open spaces, enjoying affordable vacations, and enhancing America's national parks. And this year is more special than ever -- the National Park Service is turning 100! [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVfwJPxwSnM]

One of the benefits of living in DC is our close proximity to dozens of national parks and monuments. For example, getting to experience the famous cherry blossoms in full bloom was incredible. Although they peaked a bit early this year, we were fortunate enough to catch them in all their pink glory and -- let me tell you -- it was a true visual masterpiece.

Fittingly, the delicate cherry blossom flower inspired this springtime look, which is all about colorful elegance. I love this flowy blouse from the Eva Mendes Collection at New York & Company. It features a beautiful, bold floral print that practically screams "spring!". Although I tend to avoid color in my everyday wardrobe, I just can't resist these blue, pink, and yellow hues that work so well together. I wore skinny blue jeans and nude, pointy-toe flats to keep the ensemble casual yet polished. A gold and pink-stone statement necklace add a touch of glam without going over-the-top.

Before the heat of summer sets in, I hope you're able to go for many walks in your nearby parks and recreation areas to take in Mother Nature's masterful awakening from her long winter slumber.

Happy spring,

Mekita
