HI, I'M MEKITA RIVAS.
I'm a multicultural freelance journalist and creative consultant based in Washington, D.C.
My writing has been published in The New York Times, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle, Architectural Digest, Wine Enthusiast, Refinery29, and elsewhere. I’m most interested in stories at the intersections of culture, fashion, lifestyle, and wellness. I frequently approach my journalistic work through the lens of gender, race, and ethnicity. I have previously served as an editor at Cosmopolitan, a senior contributing fashion editor at PopSugar, and a senior fashion writer at Bustle.
In addition to my editorial experience, I’ve worked as a copywriter, editor, and strategist across a broad range of industries for more than a decade. Through my boutique consultancy, I collaborate with clients on copywriting, creative + content strategy, and editorial direction + oversight.
I earned my undergraduate degrees in journalism and English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. My current literary project is the manuscript for my debut novel; I am actively seeking representation.
When not writing — or thinking about writing — I enjoy high intensity workouts, calming yoga sessions, sustainably sourced food and wine, and planning my next great escapade.
