festival fashion

Unless you've been living in a cave, you're probably well aware that festival season is upon us. With Coachella kicking off today, I'm bracing myself for the flood of envy that I'll be feeling as I scroll through my Instagram feed this weekend and next. What started out as a mecca for music fans has become an outlet for bloggers to showcase their take on festival fashion. While I think it's become a tad ridiculous in recent years, fashion at Coachella and at other festivals is -- without a doubt -- endlessly interesting. Although I won't be pitching up a tent or catching Florence + the Machine do her thing at this year's event (sad face), I can at least dress like I am, right? Of course, my approach to festival fashion is quite tame. You won't see me rocking a 3-foot tall headdress or a neon crop top and cowboy boots (but to each his own). For me, festival fashion is all about bringing it back to the basics (read: comfy wear versus flashy wear) and incorporating fun bohemian elements without going over-the-top.

This look began with a relatively plain black romper and complementary sandals that are super comfortable and stylish (unless it's at the pool or post-pedicure, I'm pretty anti-flip-flop). Next, I layered this flowy, mid-length floral kimono over the romper. The light pink floral pattern really adds an element of soft elegance without looking dramatic (a floor-length kimono might have been too much).

Then it was all about the accessories. Baubles & Gems sent me a ring and body chain that serendipitously worked perfectly together with this look. If you can believe it, the Mother of Pearl cocktail ring is even more stunning in real life. The rose gold finish is incredibly sophisticated -- I'm absolutely in love! This piece will pair beautifully with so many spring and summer looks. To ramp up the glam factor, I wore the gold tone body chain over the romper. I love how the crystals and gold chevron pattern really pop against the black. I can see this piece looking stellar with a graphic tee and ripped jeans, or a sleek, head-to-toe monochromatic ensemble.

Last but certainly not least, a girl's gotta have something to carry her essentials in! Well, look no further because that's where Hello Totes comes in. First of all, I'm obsessed with every tote. They feature the cutest designs and phrases -- it's so hard to pick just one! After much deliberation, I opted for the "Good Vibes Only" tote because that's a message I can definitely relate to. Now wherever I go with this tote, people know to back off unless they're spreading those good vibes! This tote is the perfect size -- it's great for a grocery run, a gym session, or a day at the pool. If I were headed to Coachella, I could definitely stash all of my goodies in this fab bag (but for now, fresh flowers will do).
