holding on to summer

If you're like me, you tend to make really lofty and ambitious plans for the summer sometime around Memorial Day. "I'm going to organize ________!" "I will start this ________ project!" "I'll definitely get around to ________!" "I can't wait to travel to ________!" ...and then Labor Day rolls around and it suddenly occurs to you that you've accomplished a fraction of those plans -- if that. Before you know it, the days get shorter, the air gets crisper, and you're faced with the reality that another summer has come and gone, and the next one seems so. far. away.

So while September may be around the corner, I'm holding on to summer for as long as possible. And nothing screams "summer!" quite like a floral two-piece dress. I love this one from AMI Clubwear. It's bold, girly, and on-trend. The bright, Caribbean-inspired pattern evokes a sense of being completely carefree and fun-loving (a piña colada would have totally completed this look, am I right?).

Since this piece is so colorful and vibrant, I opted for relatively neutral accessories. I skipped jewelry altogether; instead choosing to wear a cognac handbag and strappy orange wedges that perfectly complement the overall ensemble. I love that these accessories can be worn well into the cooler autumn months as well (swap out the floral two-piece for a chunky knit sweater and dark denim jeans for a quintessential fall outfit).
