layered stripes

So it’s currently 66 degrees here in DC and with temperatures projected to get as high as 79 later this week, it is safe to say that I have major spring fever! I cannot wait to stuff away my bulky winter coats in exchange for breezy, lightweight jackets and swap out my chunky knit sweaters for floral frocks and swingy skirts. One of the last cold weather outfits I’ll be sharing (unless we get a freak snow storm in April or something, which would definitely not be amusing) is this layered look that I wore for a Saturday spent brunching and thrifting (in other words, the best kind of day, am I right?).

Right now I’m really loving slightly fitted, high-waisted pants because they elongate your silhouette and create a nice line from head to toe. These olive ones from Forever 21 are ridiculously comfortable and versatile. I like that they add some color to this relatively monochromatic look without being too obnoxious or in-your-face.

I’ve been trying to incorporate more patterns into my everyday wear, and what better pattern to rock on the reg than stripes? They are so easy to style because, let's be honest, stripes pretty much go with everything. This sleeveless gray and white top from Zara is a current fave, and I’m hoping to snag a few more like it in the coming weeks. I also wore a gray cardigan (unbuttoned) for an extra layer of warmth.

To complete the look, I threw on a dark gray (the kind of so-dark-it-looks-black gray) shawl, pointed toe booties, and these unbelievably gorgeous Prescott hoop earrings by DBH Boutique (I’m wearing the sterling silver, but they are also available in gold and rose gold for just $22!).

shawl: vintage (similar) // cardigan: American Apparel (similar) // top: Zara (similar) // pants: Forever 21 (similar) // booties: Steve Madden (similar) // earrings: DBH Boutique (c/o) // sunglasses: Forever 21 (similar)
