While some may think of yellow as a sunny, happy-go-lucky color, I consider it more emotionally complex. Maybe that's because I listened to Coldplay's Parachutes album on repeat in middle school, and its requisite single "Yellow" became my life anthem from ages 12-15. Regardless, I like to pair yellow with darker tones and palettes. This can be a difficult look to pull off, as one runs the risk of looking like a bumble bee. But as with any unconventional ensemble, confidence is key. For this outfit, I wore a loose yellow T-shirt with black leather shorts, black striped tights, and high-heeled black booties. I love wearing tights with shorts. As summer winds into autumn, it's a handy trick to get extra mileage out of your favorite shorts before putting them away for the colder months. It's also a great way to show off your gams without revealing any skin.
My favorite part of this outfit are the booties, which feature metallic stars and studs that -- paired with the leather -- really add some edge to this look. Mixing patterns and textures is one of my favorite styling strategies. The leather against the striped tights is unexpected, but the all-black is as classic as ever.
