winter wool

Although winter is still technically a few weeks away, try telling that to most of the country. Record lows have been felt all over the place and with cities like Buffalo, NY getting upwards of seven feet of snow, winter is definitely in full effect. Now I don't know about you, but I really struggle with my winter wardrobe and dressing stylishly in single-digit temperatures. When it's 3 degrees out, the last thing I'm thinking about is whether my pattern-mixing is on point or whether I've color blocked successfully. On the contrary, I'm only thinking about one thing: warmth.

An ultra-luxe, oversized wool coat is arguably the simplest way to stay chic even as the temperatures drop. You could be wearing a trash bag underneath and no one would even notice because they'd be too busy checking out your coat. That's the power of truly fabulous outerwear. If it's done right, it can really steal the sartorial spotlight.

As such, quality and memorable outerwear typically goes for a premium. Expect to cough up a little extra cash for a coat that will really speak volumes. That pretty much sums up how I feel about this particular coat from Zara. It's long, making it ideal for layering over just about any outfit. It's a gorgeous, perfectly neutral mink color that goes with literally everything. It features a belt and draped collar that add a touch of structure without being overbearing. And, most importantly, it's wool -- so it's insanely warm. I threw it over an all-black look and voila! Instant chicness and warmth. Take that, winter.
