twirlability

You know what makes a good dress a great dress? Twirlability. Yes, I just made that word up. But that doesn't make it any less significant. When it comes to dresses, I'm a total girly girl. I love empire waists, a-line skirts, flouncy fabric, and pretty patterns. When a dress has all of the above? Oh, game over. By now, I've established that I'm obsessed (I mean obsessed) with the Eva Mendes Collection at New York & Company (for a quick refresher: visit here and here). I cannot get enough. There's no doubt that Ms. Mendes can dress and -- most importantly -- she knows how to design items for a variety of body types. No matter your shape, I guarantee that you'll find something flattering in her collection.

Which brings me to this dress. The color is a rich burgundy (or cabernet -- depending on your red wine of choice). It's topped off with the prettiest cream-colored polka dots. The fabric is high-quality and durable, meaning this dress can be worn well into the winter months with a pair of tights or stockings. The skirt is heavy but doesn't drag, and grazes the ankles at just the right spot -- perfect for twirling and feeling like a modern day princess.

I completed this look with a collarless cream-colored coat that features a similar (but more subtle) dot pattern and classic white patent leather pumps. This ensemble is tailor-made for the office and then post-work cocktails -- professional sophistication at its finest!
