blackout

Do you have one of those go-to ensembles that -- no matter how bloated, gross, or unattractive you may feel -- manages to boost your confidence tenfold? For me, that ensemble is black on black on, yes, more black. There is something so impossibly chic and timeless about an all-black look. It never fails. Even if the pieces are structurally opposite -- think a flowy black dress and hypermasculine cut-out boots (see both below) -- the common thread of seeing black from head-to-toe creates a clean line that is as classic as it is stylish.

Once again, this look was built around one item: these killer black and white cut-out boots from Shoe Cult by Nasty Gal. I mean, how utterly badass are these? And, best of all -- they were on sale! Nothing beats fabulous fashion at a discount. Since these boots are so structured and linear, I wanted to offset that with more playful, girly apparel. I wore a sleeveless black dress with a built-in sash, which helps accentuate my frame and adds just a touch of femininity. Since it's still a little chilly out, I wore footless black tights that really highlight the boots' cut-out design. The crème de la crème is this vintage armor-like ring from Buffalo Exchange in Tucson. I'm calling it my Maleficent ring because it reminds me of something the Disney villain would wear in the 21st century.
